Notes on data changes

Here we list notes explaining important emissions changes for the country.

  • CRT data from BTR1 covering 1990-2022 has been included. It replaces and extends older NC / NIR data and leads to changes for several sectors and gases.
    • The new data introduces high changes for many sectors and gases.
    • The most important change for 2023 is a 18% drop in energy CO2 emissions. The change comes from an emissions decline for 2022 in the CR data which is not present in the third party data (EI). CH4 is also much lower post 2020 because of a decline not present in EDGAR data used for extrapolation in PRIMAP-hist v2.6.1.
    • For cumulative emissions changes in agricultural N2O have the highest contribution. However the decrease in livestock emissions is almost equal to the increase in M.AL.ELV and the change is largely due to a remapping of indirect emissions from manure management from the livestock sector where it’s grouped in the IPCC1996 categories to sector 3.C in the IPCC2006 categories.
    • Waste CH4 emissions are lower for all years but especially after 2005.
    • IPPU CO2 emissions are lower for the latest years because the new CR data shows a drop in emissions for 2022 for many subsectors.
  • Changes in the TP scenario are very small except for energy CO2 in 2023 which comes from the updated EI data.

Changes by sector and gas

For each scenario and time frame the changes are displayed for all individual sectors and all individual gases. In the sector plot we use aggregate Kyoto GHGs in AR6GWP100. In the gas plot we usenational total emissions without LULUCF.
